Each week in Qi Gong class I introduce a pressure point or two, guiding people to take more control of their health and wellbeing at home. Here we are looking at Lungs 1 and 2, a point we often work on in Qi Gong classes and workshops.
This point is particularly useful at this time of year as Autumn reveals or sometimes forces opportunities for us to let go and grieve.
In Chinese medicine grief / sadness / depression is the emotion of the lungs and the large intestine, organs associated with the metal element. Since our lungs control the flow of energy in our bodies, it’s important that we give ourselves space to deal with difficult events and we learn to let go, instead of holding on to the emotion.
We can use these acupoints to help part the clouds and bring the sun out.
What is the point?
Lung 1 and Lung 2 can help to reconnect us to our own inner light and bring clarity, inspiration, and upliftment to our minds and spirits.
We will stimulate this point by tapping with our fingers. Continue to tap, until you feel a deep breath come and go. You can also gently knock with a light loose fist, or you can locate the point and circle and press with the fingers. I find 2 or 3 fingers most beneficial.
Note: Usage of this point shouldn’t replace an acupressure or acupuncture treatment but act more as a way of supporting your system on an ongoing basis, empowering you to really get to know your body, to feel how different points work on YOUR body. Prevention and longevity lie at the core of Qi Gong and Traditional Chinese Medicine.
